ZonePerfect Classic Nutrition Bars Review By Marc Skaf
Introduction:
Zone Perfect bars are a meal replacement bar that gets you in the "zone", what is this zone that they are referring to? The Zone diet was popularized by Barry Sears and if you want to read more about it then go ahead, but these bars became popular because they were based on the popular ratios of carbohydrates, fats and protein that supposedly got you into a zone to help you lose weight, increase energy, and eliminate hunger between meals. Although never really hearing about this diet before, there seems to be a lot of studies that back this up. But lets get into the meat of this review.
I tried two of the flavours, strawberry yogurt and fudge graham. The two were both good with the strawberry being the better of the two. The strawberry coating was really good and had a nice tang to it probably cause of the yogurt base. I had no complaints with the all-natural flavouring they used and it was refreshing having something fruit flavoured rather then the typical chocolate, peanut butter, or vanilla. Compared to the best protein bars I have had (Pure Protein, Big Colossal 100) zone perfect was more of a cereal bar like those golden graham cereal bars you would get or Special K. It's good though because these bars still curve your hunger without making you feel like you just ate something really heavy. The fudge graham bar as I said earlier wasn't as good as the strawberry yogurt flavour. That is because it had a really strange after taste to it, not really sure what it was really but it put me off just a bit and also the fudge graham is pretty generic. Of course there are more flavours to try so I'm not saying that these are the best avalaible they are just the ones I tried for the review, there are 15 flavours in total. Both the textures of the bar were the same, they had chunky, crispy textures like a bar formed of golden graham cereal. It was really good and you couldn't taste any chalkiness that might come from the protein.
Now this bar, unlike many of the other bars I have reviewed, is not a protein post-workout bar. It is a nutritional supplement bar. It is meant to give you energy, help you lose weight, and curve your hunger helping you focus on your diet. There are 200 calories in each bar and the zone perfect bars balanced ratio for carbs, protein and fat are 40%, 30% and 30% respectively. The ratio in studies do very, but this happens to be one of the most widely accepted ratios using the zone diet. You don't need to be on the Zone Diet to take these bars, in fact they work good no matter what your diet is. I felt like they really help to get you by for a few hours before you start to feel hungry again and it does help to give you energy. There's nothing immoblizing about these energy bars, they are light enough that you can eat one immediately before going to the gym and still get your workout done without feeling like the bar is sitting there. They're a good snack which offers good nutrition, 15g of protein is not too bad either for the size of these bars.
So don't think of these bars as requiring you to be on the Zone Diet for them to be a benefit. You can take Zone Perfect bars regardless of what your diet is as long as you want energy, focus, and a snack that will subside your hunger until your next meal. They're a good bar, but don't pack as much protein as a pure protein bar would, but the balanced nutrition in these bars have other benefits. If you are interested in the Zone Diet after reading this review, I suggest you search it on wikipedia or google and see what these studies are about and understand the ratios behind this bars nutritional values.
