ABOUT THE
DIET
Weight Watchers has been around since the early 1960s and was
founded by Jean Nidetch. It is based on the concept that each food
item is given a set number of points, and during the day, an
individual is allowed to consume a set number of points. The points
are assigned based on fat, fibre and calorie content. The points
each individual can reach during the day are different for every
person, and the type of food allowed to eat to reach that total is
not restricted.
Group Support
The Weight Watchers program consists of weekely group support
sessions. Weight watchers has grown over the years and now has a
global network of such groups and a membership of over 20 million
people! Weight Watchers offers a "Winning Points" plan, a variety
of food products, a website, and a number of help e-tools for those
who are unable to attend the weekly group sessions.
DIET
GUIDELINES
The guidelines for the program are very clear and provided upon
joining. As described briefly above, each food item has a set
number of points, and the goal of the program is to not exceed a
certain designated number of points each day.
EXERCISE
DURING THE DIET
Although no specific exercise is specified, aerobics or cardio
daily will always help on a diet providing the diet offers
sufficient calorie intake to obtain the energy levels necessary to
do that. Since Weight Watchers is developed for each unique
individual, this should definitely be possible.
ADVANTAGES
OF THE DIET
If you are in the right group, the support you receive will likely
prove to be very helpful, supportive and motivating. The weight
watchers diet allows you to eat any foods you want, so in this
sense, it is not restrictive at all. Weight Watchers has also been
around for quite some time and has proven to be a success for many
people. Thet is not just for those looking to lose weight, but for
people looking to acquire good eating habits in general! Of all the
fad diets that have come and gone, this is certainly one of the
best.
DISADVANTAGES OF THE
DIET
The weight you will lose off a program such as this one occurs
slowly, and in today's day and age where everyone wants results
yesterday, this will turn away some people. As well, not everyone
will want to go to the support groups. However, strictly speaking
in terms of the diet, the main difficulty is translating regular
food items (non Weight Watchers products) into their point
system.
CONCLUSION
Weight Watchers is good because it promotes diet for life. It
gives us all the opportunity to study and learn about which foods
are healthy and which are not, and with enough time and interest,
this will help us to acquire good eating habits by second nature.
It is especially good for couples or groups of friends to
participate in together, as both can be motivated by the progress
of one another. Everything considered, this is one diet you might
want to consider looking into if you are looking for a healthier
lifestyle and some knowledge on nutrition!
