Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates is made up of "Specially Processed Complex Carbohydrates Extracted From Grain Sources, Crystalline Fructose." Therefore, I wouldn't call it much of a "formula."
Any physical activity, but especially intense exercise, requires a recovery period. After high performance activity, the body recovers in three distinct phases. Rapid recovery phase begins immediately after the exercise and lasts roughly 30 minutes. In the phase, the metabolic rate returns to pre-exercise levels. It is followed by intermediate recovery phase, which lasts between 90 minutes to two hours. During this phase, the body begins to restore fluids by a process called rehydration. This is the most critical phase of recovery, which requires intake of carbohydrates. To facilitate rehydration, carbohydrates should be ingested as soon after an event or training session. Finally, in the longer phase of recovery, which can last from two to 20 hours, carbohydrate replenishment continues. It is during this longer phase recovery that the damage done to the muscle by heavy exercise is repaired.
According to my understanding this claim is all correct. This really illustrates the importance of a carbohydrate/protein shake following a workout.
Just as recovery and muscle repair both are important, carbohydrate ingestion ensures that event fatigue does not set in. Training and post-exercise nutrition are essential for consistent performance, but to prevent and delay event fatigue carbohydrate replenishment is equally important. This is achieved by high carbohydrate consumption in the days immediately preceding the event. This is also referred to as carbohydrate loading. Carbohydrate loading helps athletes to avoid "hitting the wall." Therefore, high carbohydrate regimen yields greatest benefits for endurance athletes. These athletes include long-distance swimmers, cross-country skiers, soccer players, long-distance runners (especially marathoners),, triathletes and, among others, long-distance bicyclists. In general, carbohydrate replenishment in most effective for any athletes who participates in an event lasting more than 90 minutes.
Interestingly, I would assume their target group, being that they are selling this product on www.bodybuilding.com, would be bodybuilders, power-lifters and other fitness enthusiasts. Yet, in their claim, they fail to address this target group. Nevertheless, carbohydrates are important for these groups too.

Things just seem to sound better when they use words like "natural" don't they? In any case, carbohydrates are important and the taste will be discussed later in this review. In regards to the claim, I felt that Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates was fairly honest. Therefore, I award Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates an 8/10 for their claim.
For Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates, I sampled the only flavour available, fruit punch. The flavour tasted, well, a bit strange, I guess. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good but it wasn't a neutral flavour either. It had a light, medicine-like fruit punch flavour, which was less than satisfactory. It was a bit confusing. However, I can say for certain, it wouldn't be something I would choose to drink on a regular basis. For these reasons, I award Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates fruit punch flavour a 6/10 for taste.
Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates mixed less than satisfactorily in my shaker bottle. I experienced a few very small clumps and some settling at the bottom. Other than the clumps, Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates had a texture relatively the same as water. Therefore, for mixability/texture, I award Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates a 4/10.
Again, Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates is made up of "Specially Processed Complex Carbohydrates Extracted From Grain Sources, Crystalline Fructose." So I would recommend eating your complex carbohydrates (mainly grain sources in this case) and your fruits and vegetables. However, if you're in a big hurry and Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates will come in handy. Carbohydrates are calories and calories are energy. Therefore, you should expect to have more energy when you take this supplement. In regards to effectiveness, I award Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates a 7/10.
Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates had a claim which was relatively honest. However, the claim was a bit off, in my opinion, when it came to taste. I found the taste of Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates to be a light, medicine-like fruit punch flavour, which was less than satisfactory. Also, The mixability/texture was poor. Furthermore, the effectiveness of Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates is what you would expect of "Specially Processed Complex Carbohydrates Extracted From Grain Sources, [and] Crystalline Fructose." Therefore, for an overall review, I award Ultimate Nutrition's Pure Muscle Carbohydrates a 6.5/10.
