Vege Fuel by Twin Lab - Review by Michael S.

Twinlab Vege Fuel

This is the first Twin Lab product I've ever tried but I have looked into a lot of their products. After getting product I hope it would really supplement my diet well...considering the only ingredients were soy and silica, I was all excited to try it and have a great satisfaction from drinking it. The amino acid profile is amazing containing arginine, lysine, phenylalaine, serine, proline, caline, isoleucine, glycine, alanine, threonine, tyrosine, histidine, methionine, tyoptophan, cysteine, glutamine acid, aspartic acid, leucine...It contains more amino acids than ingredients that some other protein powders contain. It contains 130 calories, 1 gram of fat, 31 grams of protein and from what I can see from the label absolute no CARBOHYDRATES, that's right this is the first protein powder I have ever sen that does not have a single gram of carbohydrates meaning it is the perfect late night shake ingredient to water for anyone cutting or bulking who does not want to gain any excess fat.

I tried the Vege Fuel late at night before bed because of the reasons lifted above hoping to get a good night's sleep and some good nutrition from the Vege Fuel hoping to become as anabolic as possible throughout the night. I tried mixing it with just plain old water to avoid the carbohydrates of juice and I just want to say it was the worst tasting beverage I have ever tried in my life and would not be able to drink on a daily basis especially if I had to mix with a fork or spoon in a glass. I had to add it to orange juice because I did not want to waist such a nutritiously rich source of protein. With orange juice it wasn't great but it was tolerable for the couple seconds it took to drink... it definitely was not a beverage I would enjoy sipping on next to the pool on a hot summers day, but chugged before bed and then chased by a large glass of water to help with protein synthesis and preventing me from getting too dehydrated while I sleep I think it did the trick.

The taste can be due just to the fact that it's unflavoured so you're basically adding ground up soy beans to whatever liquid you decide to add this to, so be warned some sort of flavouring is require whether it be juice, some low calorie sports drink or fruit powder. The texture however is consistent with many other soy protein powders I have tried; it is almost like a very runny pancake batter. It makes the drink noticeable thicker as if you were just adding flour.

I would only suggest this for people who are vegans, vegetarians or people who are lactose intolerant. Like most soy products it's very healthy with a great amino acid profile, a bit cheaper on the wallet than some whey protein powders and a 1.0 PDCAA score meaning it is a very good digestible bio-available protein that your body can use.

I'm going to give the product an unfortunate 7/10. It's a great product, no doubt about it, but if you can't swallow it, it doesn't really do you any good. If you can swallow this or would prefer it to a fruit blended shake during the day (which is a great idea) I'd say go for it.
