AAKG contains arginine, an amino acid that has a number of vital roles in human biochemistry. Arginine plays a pivotal role in the urea cycle, helping to rid the body of excess ammonia. This is also important in protein synthesis as well as for the support of healthy immune function. AAKG has alpha-ketoglutarate, another key player in metabolism; as well it produces energy.
AAKG supplement question: I have read information on AAKG from different websites. One site says, "Dramatically Increases Nitric Oxide Production for Increased Muscle Pump! AAKG is arginine alpha-ketoglutarate in a sustained release formula which is pH buffered to ensure maximum absorption. Arginine released into the bloodstream will dramatically increase nitric oxide production. An increase in nitric oxide may lead to the following: extended and enhanced muscle pump after training, improved endurance and recovery time, improved workout capacity, and increased sexual vigour. AAKG supplement answer: A review of Medline in June 2008 did not reveal any human studies with AAKG supplements, therefore I think it is premature to make such statements.
AAKG promotes increased nitric oxide production for enhanced blood flow and better delivery of oxygen and nutrients to working muscle. AAKG increases the volume of blood to flow through muscle tissue which leads to increased oxygen and nutrient delivery, glucose uptake, muscle velocity and power output. AAKG helps amplify muscle-growth signals giving faster gains in lean mass and accelerates both fast and slow twitch muscle fibre for greater strength, improved muscle recovery, and increased endurance. The increased blood flow may also contribute to enhanced sexual performance.
In addition, L-Arginine stimulates the production of human growth hormone, a chemical produced by the body that promotes growth and plays an essential role in metabolism. This is popular among athletes because it is believed to help building lean muscle mass and strength.
For best results, drink at least 64 oz of water daily with AAKG. While taking AAKG, don't let your carbohydrate intake fall below 40% of your total daily caloric intake. Don't eat for at least 30 minutes before or after taking AAKG. Not recommended for continuous, high-level use for more than 60 days. Don't take products that contain ephedrine while using AAKG as they may act as a vasoconstrictor reducing AAKG effects.
Warning: Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing or if you are at risk or are being treated for heart attack, high blood pressure, liver, thyroid, psychiatric disease, diabetes or hypoglycaemia. People with known medical conditions or taking drugs should consult with a licensed physician and / or pharmacist prior to taking dietary supplements.
