STS Pro Muscle Whey XP Review By Matt Canning
The STS Pro Muscle Whey XP protein is one of many samples that I received at the 2007 Mr. Olympia weekend in Las Vegas. Analyzing the nutritional content briefly, it is roughly what I would like to see in a protein powder: it contains 100 calories per 28 gram serving with one gram of fat, 20 grams of protein, and two grams of carbohydrates. It does contain artificial milk chocolate flavour in the chocolate flavour and artificial french vanilla flavour in the vanilla flavour which I tried. Click the banner ad for the product above to review more specific information regarding the ingredient details. Overall, it has a respectable nutritional and protein content in comparison with other protein powders and meal replacement/weight gain powders on the market today.
I mixed my STS Pro Muscle Whey XP vanilla sample in orange juice and found it to be excellent. If desired, you can also mix protein powder with orange juice and ice in a blender and you will find that it roughly tastes like an orange creamsicle; more of a dessert than a health food supplement. That said, in the case of Pro Muscle Whey XP, I found it had a very slight aftertaste which was similar to that of glutamine, although it does not contain any glutamine and so it is difficult to me to pinpoint the specific ingredient which causes that aftertaste. In all fairness, it was very slight and not something that I would likely have been conscious of if not for the fact that I review supplements and take special note of all details when doing so.
The protein powder mixed fairly well in a glass with orange juice, putting the protein powder in the glass after the juice was poured. There were some clumps, but overall it was pretty good as far as mixing was concerned. To reduce clumps of protein powder, I recommend a shaker bottle or a blender which will eliminate these problems most of the time.
I found this product digested perfectly well and gave me no stomach upset or related problems whatsoever. With that in mind, I would gladly include these shakes consistently as part of my post-workout arsenal.
This protein product passed all of my requisite tests in terms of taste, solubility, and digestibility. That said, I would look at the specifics of nutritional content and overall value as part of my decision to include it as a long term part of my bodybuilding nutrition program. Since I constantly review various protein powders, I seldom use the same one frequently, but if I wanted to pick just one, I would definitely look at the factors above as part of my decision. Given the price, which is 30 packets, each containing one 100 calorie serving for $39.99, you are looking at a little over $1 per serving. For three shakes a day, that works out to $4 per day or $120 per month. Compare that to Bodybuilding.com's house brand Higher Power and their "100% Whey Power" which contains 67 servings per container with 133 calories per serving each containing 25 grams of protein. Even BSN Syntha-6, which is a very premium protein, contains 30 servings per container for a price of $26.99. Each serving contains 200 calories and 22 grams of protein. Overall, you may find that this is a better bang for your buck, and would then consider other factors in making your choice. To me, the greatest combination of nutritional quality and overall cost effectiveness paint my decision making when it comes to purchasing protein. You should take into consideration all of these factors when making your choice. STS Pro Muscle Whey XP is a good protein powder, albeit, slightly on the pricey side.
