South Beach Diet Cereal Bars Review By Michael S.
South Beach Diet Cereal Bars
I am sure that a lot of you out there are like me with your daily schedules. A truly hectic schedule every day that makes it difficult some days for us to eat is our worst enemy as bodybuilders and fitness addicts. Although I am not a big fan of any protein bars due to some that are basically just chocolate bars with a bit of cheap protein added to it and then charging 2 dollars a bar for basically gritty sand. Luckily these days there is a huge selection of protein bars out there that makes it easy for anyone to find their own favourite brand.
I recently had the chance to try South Beach Livings High protein cereal bar. This bar served as a great snack in between classes when I do not have time to take out any precooked foods because I only have about 5 minutes in between my classes. A lot of fitness addicts like myself like to split their daily meals into 6 - 8 meals a day about 2 hours apart never surpassing 500 calories and that's why this bar made such a great addition to my currently cutting diet.
The bar contains 140 calories, 10 grams of protein, 10 vitamins and minerals and came in a delicious but unfortunately artificially flavoured maple nut bar. With 5 grams of fat and 15 grams of carbohydrates it won't hurt you to eat, especially with 3 grams of fiber, something a lot of us do not get enough of. The bar contains vitamin a, vitamin c, calcium, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, phosphorus and zinc. These alone are more than you'll find in your usually bar...especially when to my surprise I realized this was made by Kraft! The bar is however as I described early, just a normal cereal bar with soy protein isolate added to it and then full of sugar, corn syrup and then one of my most hated ingredients palm kernel oil. Palm kernel oil is something I try to keep low in my diet because a lot of the times it is processed and used a preservative.
The bar has artificial flavours and artificial coloring, oils, maltodextrin, high glycemic index sweetners. To make it appealing though they add all the vitamins separately and some added fibre as well. In the long run the bar itself has no real positive nutritional value. All the nutrition comes from additives while the bar is junk food. If given the choice I would gladly make my own protein bar at home with my own ingredients so I can control what goes in it. If not given the choice though I would down one of these in between my classes just to keep my metabolism and energy up.
Overall I am going to give the bar a 6/10. It is not the greatest bar as far as ingredients. However it satisfied my hunger, it tasted good and it lives up to its title more than other bars.
