Source Naturals L-Carnitine
"L-Carnitine is important for providing energy to muscles, and has been described as a "conditionally essential" nutrient for humans. 95% of all carnitine stores in the body are found in muscle tissue. It carries fatty acids into the mitochondria of each cell, where they are oxidized and stored as ATP, a prime energy fuel."
Difficult to argue with this claim because it's right on mark with the available scientific literature. Let's look at what else is said about L-Carnitine elsewhere.
"Studies have been conducted on L-carnitine since as early as 1937. Those studies yielded positive results suggesting that the body's cardiovascular system can greatly benefit from its intake.*"
If it showed positive results in1937, why are we only now exploring it as a supplement? Seems a bit fishy to me…
"There are a variety of published studies that suggest L-carnitine is useful in increasing the heart's output and improving it's functioning, as well as stimulating the heart's energy supply and supporting cardiac performance.*"
Again, if it's this effective, then why is it only being marketed now? Furthermore, I'm distraught to see that L-Carnitine is cannot be shipped to Canada due to Canadian laws. Customers in other countries need to check with their local laws.
As far as the claim goes, I felt it was accurate and to point with available scientific literature. Therefore, in regards to the claim, I award Source Naturals L-Carnitine a 10/10.
Supplements of this nature don't exhibit readily noticeable effects. Often, it takes time for their full effects to take place. Furthermore, even when the effect is taking place, it isn't a big change and is often not noticed. Supplements of this nature are unlike products such as caffeine and creatine which exhibit noticeable effects immediately or almost immediately. Personally, I didn't notice any significant effects from taking L-Carnitine. I took Source Naturals L-Carnitine for about 40 days. Had I taken it longer, perhaps I would have noticed the effects. However, it's possible that the supplement was working to some degree, even if the effects weren't significant. It's also possible that my body was getting enough L-Carnitine from diet and none extra was needed and this is why the effects weren't noticeable. In any case, just because I didn't get great results from L-Carnitine, doesn't mean you won't. I would suggest looking at where L-Carnitine comes from and assessing whether or not you're attaining enough from your diet before supplementing with L-Carnitine. Therefore, in regards to my personal experience with Source Naturals L-Carnitine, I award Source Naturals L-Carnitine a 2/10 for effectiveness.
Source Naturals L-Carnitine talks big game and it may very well deliver in some cases. However, in my case, I found that Source Naturals L-Carnitine was ineffective and not worth the money. Therefore, for an overall review, I award Source Naturals L-Carnitine a 6/10.
