Ronnie Coleman in the Battle for the Olympia 1998
Ronnie Coleman won his first Sandow trophy at the 1998 Mr. Olympia Contest - and he looked great. Although Ronnie Coleman still dominates the Mr. Olympia to this day, there is a world of difference between the look he presents today and the one he presented seven years ago. He currently competes around 50 pounds heavier - 296 pounds, but as much as 302 pounds at the 2004 Grand Prix Holland.
So without further adieu, here are some pictures and commentary of Ronnie Coleman in the 1998 Battle for the Olympia
It looks like Ronnie's body has always dwarfed his head. Check out THIS PICTURE for more of the same but at the 2004 Mr. Olympia Contest.
Although the Ronnie Coleman of today would dwarf the Ronnie Coleman of 1998, he was still huge at the time, and some would have even said he had completely filled his frame (Ronnie later proved to us this was far from the truth).
Aside from being huge and shapely, Ronnie's conditioning was also the best of the show - here is a pictures showing his details.
The most muscular is another of Ronnie's copyright poses - although it has gotten even bigger and freakier in time. Check out THIS PICTURE of Ronnie at the 2004 Grand Prix Holland - wow! That's a full 50 pounds heavier and he's shredded in both cases. Talk about being born to bodybuild.
This is the part of the video that really began to impress me. Ronnie's size and condition was one thing - you see pros get up to 250 pounds and shredded - it's impressive, but not one of kind. What is extremely rare, however, is a waist the size of the one Ronnie displayed at the time of the filming. It was extremely low and Ronnie had one of the most pronounced waist to chest and waist to shoulder ratios I had ever seen. Check out the pictures below for more of the same:
Although Ronnie looks impressive in the picture above, compare it to THIS PICTURE from 2004 and note the size difference.
The same thing can be said for the photo above. Compare it to THIS PICTURE. It's so mind boggling how much shredded muscle Ronnie has gained since 1998, that you would think the pictures were morphed.
And of course, what would that picture be without a comparison to current day Ronnie Coleman in the side chest pose
Ronnie was great all around as usual, and Ronnie's gut was not even noticeable - if he did have any stomach distention at the time it could have fooled me. As for Ronnie's back, it was still the best in the world:
And of course there are comparisons to be made to the www.flexonline.com pictures posted in the forums:
Rear Lat Spread
Rear Double Biceps
And notice his glutes are still shredded at 305 pounds, which is evidence he has maintained his conditioning for the most part, even as he has aged and gained massive amounts (50 lbs) of muscle.
