Optimum 100% Natural Whey Protein
The first question anyone will ask you when you start working out is, "What kind of protein do you take?"...well maybe "How much can you bench?" but you get my point. There are as many different proteins out there to build muscles out there as there are different body types trying to build muscles. They key is to not be persuaded by a shiny label and fancy name that usually follows with a high cost. From my own experience I know a lot of people take Optimum Nutrition Whey as it is a trusted brand with trusted results. With a wide variety of flavours and package sizes almost anyone can find the flavour and convenience they want with Gold Standard 100% whey.
A great feature of their whey product is the high amount of whey protein isolates that digest in your body quickly and head straight to your muscles to help with recovery right after your workout. With 24g of protein per 32g serving and only 4 grams of carbohydrates you know you're getting exactly what your body is asking for after a workout, especially if you're trying to keep off the excess pounds of fat from consuming too many carbohydrates and fats when they are not wanted. Gold Standard also contains a great BCAA profile of 5.5 grams per serving and 4 grams of glutamine and precursors. Also a great bang for your buck, a 10 pound bag containing approximately 140 servings can last you almost 4 months for only $80.
Personally Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard is one of my favourite protein powders around. I would take two servings post workout in a shaker cup with orange juice and it would be smooth unless not shaken before brought to the gym or else a thick skin will form around the protein and only be mixable with a blender. This week however I got the pleasure of trying Optimum nutrition's limited edition Mocha Cappuccino flavour which tastes exactly how I expected it to taste. It had strong chocolate taste with almost a hint of coffee, or simply a cappuccino from a coffee shop. Unfortunately due to this flavour I would not recommend mixing with anything either than milk or water. Mixing with any sort of acidic juice may make you a bit sick from the taste. When mixed with milk it was creamy and delicious.
The great qualities of this product include; quick protein digestion and protein synthesis, very affordable, great tasting, available in many convenient sizes, can be found almost anywhere, low in calories, high in protein...the list just goes on and on. On the other hand there are some cons to this product, such as; if left out for too long a skin can form around the protein making it very unpleasant and most of the powders don't taste great in water (do however taste good in orange juice or milk).
I must say I owe about 70% of all my gains to this product, it is not the first protein powder I have taken but the one I have took for the longest amount of time. A highly recommended product and as far as ratings go I will have to give it a 9.5/10. The only reason it does not get a perfect score is the cholesterol (I have seen brands with 0% like Biochem) and the artificial flavours added to it.
