Nutiva Organic Hemp Protein

So you're a vegan and soy protein is not doing it for you, or maybe you don't like some of the other macronutrients in whey or just maybe, just maybe you love the health benefits of 100% organic hemp. Hemp is a very cheap to produce plant, the male version of the marijuana plant, so if you had any hope of getting a high, you're going to have to get it from your workout. The great features of hemp protein are equal and beyond those of the popular whey protein. With whey protein you are getting a good sized portion of protein but unwanted fats and carbohydrates that are not beneficial in any way. In Nutiva's Organic Hemp protein, not only can you be assured that what you're getting is 100% pure organic hemp but every serving is 37% edistin and albumin protein, 43% fiber, 9% monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats along with vitamin E and Iron. It is known as a 0 net carbohydrate protein because the amount of fibre per serving is higher than the number of carbohydrates, which for anyone doing the Atkins diet is great...and actually everyone else because fiber is a very unappreciated macronutrient.

I was so excited when I received this product but waited until after my workout to open it the next day because it is only good for up to 8 weeks and it must be refrigerated so you might want to stick to buying the smaller containers if you're not going to be taking the servings very often. As far as taste goes, it's tolerable in anything but water, in water it's just this odd gritty tasting powder, almost like Creatine but worse. The great news is there are no clumps it disperses very well in whatever beverage you put it in since it is almost like stirring parsley into water. Be aware though, anything you mix this with will turn the drink green, it will look very unappetizing but it will not change the flavour.

When I tried it, I first had it in orange juice a couple hours before bed because of the high fibre content. I had my cousin over and we enjoyed the idea of hemp protein and could only imagine the crazy gains we would make drinking it. After putting it in the blender, which turned the orange juice green we poured ourselves 2 tall glasses each with about a quarter cup of the hemp protein. Looking at the protein in disgust we kept daring the other to drink it while staring at the cups watching the hemp sink to the bottom. After finally just agreeing to drink it we chugged it back and realized it was not that bad and could easily be used by a lot of people who cannot handle those awful tasting supplements.

Overall I would rate Nutiva's 100% organic hemp protein a 9/10. It has a tolerable taste and texture. Great healthy benefits and is very easy on the wallet. I would recommend this to anyone lactose intolerant, sick of whey/soy/egg protein.
