Mike Matarazzo recently underwent triple bypass heart surgery on Wednesday, December 8, and is now at his Modesto, California home.
Mike was admitted to the hostpital on Sunday, December 5, after suffering from shortness of breath. Tests showed that two arteries were completely blocked and the other was 75% blocked. "The diagnosis was conjunctive heart failure and triple bypass surgery was scheduled for Wednesday, December 8" (FLEX).
Mike's 13 hour heart surgery was a complete success and had an outcome as good as could have been wished for. Mike returned home Monday, December 13.
Mike is an incredibly likeable athlete in the sport of bodybuilding and was best known for his freaky biceps and HUGE calves. In fact, there have been no calves in the history of bodybuilding up the Mike's standard.
Currently Mike is performing light exercise for rehabilitation.

"Just got off the phone with Big Mike, he is doing fine in his recovery from surgery. He stated his family and his father have "NEVER" had a history of heart failure or heart disease. He is home and talking full of retrospective insight and has sworn of competition, as he feels it directly lead to his present situation. He would like to thank all the fans and well wishers for their prayers and support. As well, he is looking forward to the next phase of his life, which will include helping others and giving his testimony about the pitfalls and advantages of the sport. He had two arteries that were 100% Blocked and one other that was 75% blocked. Mike complained of difficulty breathing and checked into a hospital where test were run and he was admitted on the spot, thank God.
In summation, Mike truly feels Blessed to have made it through the procedure and is already looking towards the next phase of his life.
