Met-Rx Amplified Shooter Review by Matt Canning
I got some samples of "Amplified Shooter" by Met-Rx at the 2007 Mr. Olympia weekend in Las Vegas and I decided to give one of them a try immediately before one of my chest workouts to see if it gave me an edge during training and a little bit of a mental boost. Amplified Shooter makes a lot of claims, including being a mind and body magnifier and an energy shot. It includes 200 mg of caffeine and the blend contains synephrine.
I took the product about 30 minutes before my workout and headed to the gym. I did a chest workout that day which consisted almost entirely of bench presses. I started off with 135 pounds for a warmup and immediately went on to 225 pounds. I did about 10 reps with 225 at first and continued to do more sets with 225 with assisted reps and forced reps as needed, always going to failure and using the above principles to prolong failure as much as possible. For a more detailed listing of those and other training intensity principles, click the link below:
Towards the end of the workout, I decided to lift 275 for a one rep max and couldn't quite make it, although I would have been able to do at least as much earlier in the workout in a less fatigued state. As it is, my pressing strength at the moment is good, just not as good as it was at my all time best. My diet has not been great lately, but it has been improving slowly as of this month (November, 2007) and will continue to improve in time, no doubt. I am very serious in achieving my goals these days, and the only way to accurately gauge the effectiveness of a supplement is to have a diet which is in check which makes one less extraneous variable to consider when determining said effectiveness. If my diet is bad but the supplement is good, things will be no different than they would be with a good diet and no supplement program. My goal is to always have a top rate diet so that I can determine whether or not a supplement does what it says it will.
During the chest workout I described above, I was also using a product called "Altered State" by muscle asylum project. For a complete review of my experience with that supplement based on the same workout, check below:
All in all, what I can say is that I definitely had a better workout than I expected. Which of that can be attributed to Amplified Shooter as opposed to Altered State, I can't exactly say, but I can say that my mental attitude was stronger than my pumps. That is not to say that Altered State did not deliver the pumps it said it would, since my workout was high weigh and low to moderate reps and not exactly conducive to blood volume training since I was training exclusively on the flat bench. I think I would have achieved a better pump and allowed Altered State to do a better job had my focus been on blood volume that day. What I do know for certain is that I was more alert than usual and I did have an above average workout so I can definitely give my recommendation to Amplified Shooter!
