Lee Haney won eight Mr. Olympia titles by the time he retired from bodybuilding in 1991. He won his fourth at the 1987 Mr. Olympia Contest, and it was a well deserved win (although he was close to his runner up Rich Gaspari).
Lee Haney started his posing off very powerfully in a manner similar to Ronnie Coleman at the 2003 Mr. Olympia Contest. It was obvious from the beginning that Lee knew he was going to win.
Huge upper body and a small waist. That's exactly what bodybuilding is all about. His conditioning was never as good as his nearest competition, Rich Gaspari, but his shape and structure was too hard to beat.
This is a rarely done pose these days. And there are obvious reasons why it isn't done as often - it's not particularly easy to do, and it requires both upper body mass as well as a tiny waist and good posing ability - all of which Lee had.
Lee dominated in this pose and with good reasons - all the frontal proportions are excellent and highlight his incredible taper.
Although not as hard and conditioned as Rich Gaspari, this picture easily proves the kind of shape Lee was in - and it was still good enough to be a multiple Mr. Olympia champion.
Classical poses like the one above tend to be seen less and less as bodybuilders get bigger and bigger - but that didn't stop Lee from being able to perform them elegantly. He had it all, and made this a great addition to his powerful posing routine.
Lee's biceps were actually a weak point - when you compare his arms to his chest and back, and his other dominant parts, you'll be able to see why - in any case, even as a weak point, his arms were quite good.
Another twisting classical pose - Lee was the first of the Mr. Olympias to make a well developed back the mark of an excellent bodybuilder - and the mark of a Mr. Olympia winner - both of the winners since Lee Haney - Ronnie Coleman and Dorian Yates have proven the importance of having a big and conditioned back.
Lee's front double biceps was a good pose for him due to his lats originating so low (basically at his waist). His biceps were relatively small, but his excellent taper made this a winning pose.
Lee shows his fullness in this pose. He had a look on his face throughout his posing routing as though he knew he was going to win the whole time.
