You might be surprised to read that DHEA 25MG by Higher Power has no other ingredients! Directions state to take one pill upon waking up and one before sleeping so effects are optimal.
DHEA, which is short for dehydroepiandrosterone, is an endogenous hormone made in the human body secreted by the adrenal gland. It serves as precursor to male and female sex hormones. DHEA levels in the body begin to decrease after age 30, and are reported to be low in some people with anorexia, end-stage kidney disease, type two diabetes non-insulin dependent diabetes, AIDS, adrenal insufficiency, and in the critically ill. DHEA levels may also be depleted by a number of drugs, including insulin, corticosteroids, opiates, and danazol.
There is sufficient evidence supporting the use of DHEA in the treatment of adrenal insufficiency, depression, induction of labour, and systemic lupus erythematosus.
There is a lack of available studies on the long-term effects of DHEA. However, DHEA may cause higher than normal levels of androgens and estrogens in the body, and theoretically may increase the risk of prostate, breast, ovarian, and other hormone-sensitive cancers. Therefore, it is not recommended for regular use without supervision by a licensed healthcare professional.
DHEA is the most abundant hormone made by the adrenal glands, which are located just above the kidneys. After DHEA is made by these glands it goes into the bloodstream and from then on, it travels all over the body and goes into our cells, where it is converted into androgens or estrogens in women. Small amounts of DHEA are also made in the brain by brain cells. Therefore DHEA can be called a neurosteroid.
Consult a physician or licensed, qualified healthcare professional before using this product if you have, or have a family history of prostate cancer, prostate enlargement, heart disease or low good cholesterol / LDL or if you are using any other dietary supplement, prescription drug or over-the-counter drug. Do not exceed recommended serving. Exceeding recommended serving may cause serious adverse health effects. Possible side effects include acne, hair loss, hair growth on the face (in women), aggressiveness, irritability, and increased levels of estrogen. Discontinue use and call a physician or licensed, qualified healthcare professional immediately if you experience rapid heartbeat, dizziness, blurred vision, or similar symptoms.
