Well I tried the chocolate flavour of 100% Casein Power by Higher Power Nutrition and it was probably the worst tasting chocolate protein sample I have ever had. I am not sure if it was because I put too much Casein Power protein into my milk or if it is just horrible-tasting but I put two scoops with 500ml of milk and I couldn't even finish it. Most supplement powders you kind of get used to them but this was just one bad mouthful after mouthful. So then I tried just one scoop and I admit the taste improved slightly but not enough to consider it as reasonably better. For those who want to buy this I would advise you to only try the banana flavour or else you will probably want to take it back and it would mean wasting your valuable time for other activities.
After reading the nutrition facts, I was kind of disgusted because I know of most other products similar to this that have much better facts. Certain areas included a higher daily average of bad fat than good fat and not to mention the cholesterol and the protein only made up two-thirds of it.
Anyway for those who want to buy it anyway, for best results, use Higher Power Casein Protein first thing in the morning and before and after training. It is bad for those allergic to soy or milk.
Other benefits of this product are included within the following statements: rapid protein use is desirable immediately before and after exercise to help refuel recovering muscles, but delayed digestion and absorption may be more beneficial at other times - including bedtime when your body typically goes for hours without food. Casein proteins are sensitive and tend to thicken in the stomach. Because of this, it can take more than twice as long for 100% Casein to be broken down into its amino acid subcomponents than other proteins. Higher Power Nutrition 100% Casein is also free of artificial flavours, sweeteners, and synthetic colours and uses only premium micellar caseins to create a protein that's truly time-released.
Sometimes slower is better - especially when it comes to the rate of protein digestion.
