Some have said that Gustavo has put on too much muscle too fast - I would tend to agree with that. Back in 2002, Gustavo had the ability to pull a vacuum in his front double biceps pose. This is something seldom seen today. Then all of a sudden, basically around the time Gustavo started becoming so successful (in 2004), he showed the emergence of stomach distention (e.g., the notorious "GH gut" criticized so heavily on message boards throughout the internet).

What happened?

Well, everything is sheer speculation of course, but as I said, I think Gustavo basically tried to gain too much mass too quickly and the end result was stomach distention. Is it reversible? Who knows...few bodybuilders who have gone through the same type of problem have reversed it. But hey, I guess there is a price to pay when it comes to competing with the mass monsters on stage today, and is it even possible for a stomach to stay flat for some people as their weight goes up? What I mean, is that even if Gustavo gained his mass more slowly, the same result may have taken place. I really don't know for sure.

I think Gustavo is a champion bodybuilder and will definitely be a top five finisher this year at the Mr. Olympia Contest. After all, he did finish third at the 2003 Mr. Olympia Contest.
