I got this picture from the great most muscular picture article, and was pretty impressed:

I have to say that this is one of Gunter's best pictures, and also one of the best most muscular poses around. He should have used this pose during the challenge round for his challenge against Dexter Jackson. It would have been a sure win for him.

What I can say about Gunter is that I definitely consider him world class, and definitely top five or top 10 in the world. Some say he shouldn't be anywhere near that level in terms of placings, but I disagree. I think he is fantastic, both as a personality and as a physique. And since this is bodybuilding, contests should be judged on the basis of his physique (and not his personality or smile of course). I wrote about Gunter's strengths in this article, and I still agree with my previous opinions.

What is holding Gunter back from recapturing his form from 2002? Well, it is not a size issue at all. His weight has been basically the same ever since his top five finish at the 2002 Mr. Olympia Contest and his victory at the 2002 GNC Show of Strength. The issue at hand here is one of HARDNESS and FULLNESS. Gunter subsequently came in flat in the following two years (comparatively), and has not been as impressive since.

He just needs to find that special formula and should be back in top form this year at the 2005 Mr. Olympia Contest. And as it turns out, he's working with Chad Nicholls again (as he did in 2002), so hopefully this becomes a reality. At only 35 years old, Gunter should still be able to pull it off. I wish him the best in 2005!
