GeniSoy Soy Protein Bar Review By Dave
Peanut Butter Fudge
The Claim:
"GeniSoy Soy Protein Bars provide 14 grams of high quality Soy Protein Isolate."
14 grams of protein is not too bad for a protein bar although I prefer 20 grams or more if possible. But 14 grams is alright and I am new to reviewing soy protein bars but I would expect that soy bars would have on average less protein per bar than regular protein bars.
"GeniSoy uses only water processed Isolated Soy Protein (SUPRO¯ brand Soy Protein Isolate). This process preserves the natural levels of Isoflavones (Genistein and Daidzein) found in Soy."
I cannot speak for this process but I believe that GeniSoy is a reputable enough company to make a claim that is accurate so I have no reason to disbelieve this particular claim.
"Each GeniSoy Protein Bar contains antioxidants vitamin E and selenium to help battle the harmful effects of free radicals in the body."
For this product to be rich in antioxidants is an additional benefit and I believe it adds to the overall quality and value of the bar.
"GeniSoy Soy Protein Bars contain no aspartame, cholesterol or artificial flavors."
Although I am not personally particularly concerned with aspartame, some people are and the fact that this product does not contain artificial flavours will be a positive thing for such individuals.
"The GeniSoy Soy Protein bar provides convenience and great taste for on-the-go lifestyles. Each bar has 14 grams of water-processed isolated soy protein and the antioxidants Vitamin E and Selenium. The chocolate uncoated bar contains no fat and is heart-healthy."
I completely agree with the convenience aspect of this bar. As mentioned above, the inclusion of antioxidants is a positive good and some will be happy that this bar does not contain any fat. I am more concerned with the lack of cholesterol and the heart-healthy claim.
In regards to the claim, I felt that GeniSoy was pretty honest. Therefore, I award the GeniSoy an 8/10 for the claim.
Taste:
As mentioned above, I am new to reviewing soy protein bars and have nothing to compare it to, but I still think it tasted pretty good compared to other [non-soy] protein bars which I have tried. I consumed the "Peanut Butter Fudge" flavour and it was pretty good and roughly tasted as you would expect but while I am truly not a fan of soy protein powder, I did not find this soy protein bar to be any worse than a typical protein bar. I rate the taste an 8/10.
Texture:
I found that GeniSoy bar had a soft and somewhat chewy texture with a slight crunch that I enjoyed. Therefore, for texture, I award GeniSoy a 9.5/10.
Overall Review:
I felt that the claim was in order. The taste was great and the texture was pleasing. The only improvement I would suggest is that it contain more protein. However, this would more than likely upset the taste as high protein bars can usually be determined through taste and not in a good way, at least in my opinion. Overall, I was very pleased with the soy protein bar. Therefore, for an overall review, I award GeniSoy Peanut Butter Fudge bar a 9/10.
