Today went very well, in terms of both nutrition and achieving my bodybuilding goals in the gym. Bodybuilding is primarily nutrition (don't let anyone tell you anything else!) and if something has to give, I would much rather it be my training than my nutrition. I strive to get a consistent five meals or more each day, and I know that some days this doesn't happen, but that never makes me reduce that goal.

Training shoulders today went very well and I make it a goal to continue to tweak my training for the best results. I'm starting to think that slightly increased volume and greater training frequency will help me gain muscle faster. I have been on sort of an easy gainer's muscle program since I began training in November of 2000, and the result is that I have gained a lot of strength, but I have gained muscle at a slower pace than I would consider ideal. However, to be realistic, even one pound of muscle tissue gained in a month is a LOT. I know it doesn't seem like much, but keeping up that rate over the long term does add up. Think about it like this: if a 20 year old starting training at 5'10, 135 pounds and 8% body fat, and gained at the rate of one pound of muscle each month over the long term, he could get his weight up to a muscular 255 pounds by the age of 30. Now tell me how many bodybuilders there are out there who have those stats at the age of 30? Even with enhanced bodybuilding techniques (ie, the use of steroids) few, if any, bodybuilders achieve those types of stats. The fact is, my gains have been reasonable, but I'm led to believe they would be all the better if I made my training more specific to my body type - the ectomorph - I believe I would gain muscle at a faster pace. I will definitely give it some thought and try to organize training based on that idea. As long as I continue to improve, I will continue with bodybuilding and if I'm not improving, I will ALSO continue with bodybuilding, but just make more changes! If I'm improving as it is - well, as the saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Take care,
