GATOR WHEY EIGHT BALL NUTRITION
The Claim:
The Ultimate Hydration-Power Balance For Post-Workout Recovery!
It's not by any means the ultimate for post-workout recovery.
Premium Whey protein and perfect ratio of electrolytes make this the premium post-workout whey on the market.
The "premium whey protein" that they're referring to isn't whey protein isolate, it's whey protein concentrate (considered to be the lesser of the two forms). Whey protein isolate is almost always more expensive for the consumer to purchase due to its superiority over whey protein concentrate.
The "perfect ratio of electrolytes" that Gator Whey Eight Ball Nutrition is referring to is 14 grams of mostly sucrose. To this date, I've never seen a study that suggested 14 grams of carbohydrates is the "perfect ratio of electrolytes."
This athlete hydration and recovery formula is perfect for those of us who sweat it out at the gym and want a great tasting, post-workout whey that doubles as a glycogen replenishment tool.
For hard-training athletes, replenishing glycogen stores, via carbohydrates, is necessary post-workout. I'll discuss the taste of Gator Whey in the category entitled "taste."
Gator Whey Benefits
- Replenish Muscle Stores
Gator Whey will replenish some muscle stores of glycogen.
- Quicken Recovery Times
Replenishing carbohydrates post-workout is noted to speed recovery.
- Restore Electrolytes
With 85 mg sodium (4% of DV) and 25 mg of potassium (1% of DV), Gator Whey has a limited ability to do this.
- Promote Lean Muscle Mass
Having glycogen stores available for your body to draw from for energy will spare your muscle protein, thus enabling your body to hold onto more muscle.
A single, easy to digest serving of Whey Protein provides high levels of all nine essential amino acids, making it a complete protein source. Whey protein also has antioxidant and immune system supporting properties. Now you can enjoy all the benefits of high protein foods like meat, fish, eggs and milk, but without all the calories and fat. With Gator Whey blood sugar levels are stabilized naturally and stored body fat is mobilized (by promoting favorable insulin levels) to become a preferred source of sustained energy. Easy to digest amino acids minimize tissue breakdown and speed recovery from exercise. Adequate protein consumption promotes healthy hormone production, immune system function, water balance, and maintenance of skin, hair and nails.
If you want adequate protein and carbohydrate consumption post-workout, while minimizing fat intake, I'd recommend adding fruit into your post-workout protein shake.
I felt that Gator Whey Eight Ball Nutrition's claim was a bit misleading, leading the consumer to believe that Gator Whey is a much more effective supplement than it actually is. Therefore, for the claim, I award Gator Whey Eight Ball Nutrition a 5/10.
Taste:
I sampled the Lemonade flavour of Gator Whey. I found that it had a light lemon taste with a noticeable bland protein taste (the kind that you find with unflavoured protein). Due to the bland taste, I wasn't too impressed. Therefore, for taste, I award Gator Whey Eight Ball Nutrition's Lemonade flavour a 5/10.
Solubility/Texture:
I found that Gator Whey had good solubility. Also, I found that Gator Whey's texture was slightly thicker than what would be expected of water. Obviously, this will fluctuate with the amount of water added. I was impressed with the solubility/texture of Gator Whey. Therefore, for solubility/texture, I award Gator Whey an 8/10.
Effectiveness:
Gator Whey Eight Ball Nutrition is not as effective as their claim would have you believe. Gator Whey contains a minimal amount of carbohydrates, a small amount of electrolytes and very little protein (for specifics, see ingredient label or read this review in its entirety). I wasn't impressed with the effectiveness of Gator Whey. Therefore, for effectiveness, I award Gator Whey a 4/10.
Overall Review:
I felt that Gator Whey's claim was misleading. Also, the taste was not good. Furthermore, the effectiveness of Gator Whey was not up to par. On the bright side, Gator Whey solubility/texture was good. However, considering Gator Whey's limited effectiveness, I felt it was overpriced. Therefore, for an overall review, I award Gator Whey Eight Ball Nutrition Lemonade flavour a 5.5/10.
