REVIEW OF DZL PRODUCTIONS DZL GEAR FITNESS DRINK

I decided to try out the berry flavour of DZL Productions DZL Gear Fitness Drink since it is on sale at the special price of only $1.75 per bottle at bodybuilding.com. The beverage delivers a 10 gram protein drink in a fruit flavoured blend with very low calories.
DZL Fitness Drink makes the following product claim:
"DZL GEAR boosts your energy during physical activity, and replenishes your body with those vital nutrients and minerals lost during your workouts. It's formulated with Glucosamine and MSM to help strengthen joints and promote development or lean muscle mass. It does all this without sugar, fat, carbs or caffeine. DZL Gear is a zero carb, low calorie, metabolism boosting fitness beverage. DZL Gear is the fuel that runs your body."
Based on the overall nutritional content of this product and based on my use of it, I can say that these claims are true. Although I am not one to use these types of supplements regularly, they are likely going to appeal to people who have these goals in mind.
Fitness Drink has a very distinct taste which is reminiscent of the taste of every other protein drink I've tried before, most recently, NVE Protein Water. It is a heavy taste and one where you can definitely tell that you are drinking a high protein source. When I say "heavy", I mean that it is heavy in much the same way a piece of meat is such as a steak. You can tell you are eating protein when you eat a steak (or at least I can). Although the overall blend is low in calories, it is high in protein and I can certainly tell that when I am drinking it.
The only flavour which is available for the DZL Fitness Drink is berry flavour and I must say it is quite delicious. Although it contains Sucralose, I can't honestly say that I tasted any artificial sweetener and normally I can. Although aspartame is more noticeable than Sucralose in my opinion and generally speaking, Sucralose is more subtle. All in all it tasted pretty good, especially for a health supplement and a high protein one at that.
NVE's Protein Water had a much more distinct taste of Sucralose. In the DZL drink it was a lot harder to notice so I would definitely rate the taste for DZL's drink to be superior to that of NVE's drink. That said, NVE's Protein Water also contains 80 calories and thus surpasses DZL's product by 30 calories (it only contains 50 calories). Here is some info on Sucralose from wikipedia:
"In determining the safety of sucralose, the FDA reviewed data from more than 110 studies in humans and animals. Many of the studies were designed to identify possible toxic effects including carcinogenic, reproductive and neurological effects. No such effects were found, and FDA's approval is based on the finding that sucralose is safe for human consumption." For example, McNeil Nutritional LLC studies submitted as part of its U.S. FDA Food Additive Petition 7A3987, indicated that "in the 2-year rodent bioassays...there was no evidence of carcinogenic activity for either sucralose or its hydrolysis products...."
I generally seek to avoid artificial sweeteners although I don't mind sampling supplements which contain them as long as I don't get into a habit of using them too much.
I've never really had a problem digesting any supplement, and DZL's Fitness Drink is no exception. It was easy to digest and I felt it made a great treat.
DZL Fitness Drink is a good tasting supplement which delivers 10 grams of protein and 50 calories per bottle, which are on sale at the link below for the price of $1.75. They meet my nutritional standards although generally I tend to be avoidant of artificial sweeteners (in this case, Sucralose). Personally I would consider $1.75 per bottle to be a little expensive for my taste given how few calories are in each container, so it really comes down to goals. For example, for those on a bodybuilding contest diet seeking protein sources which are low in calories. Others may benefit from the taurine in the drink for a spike in energy. As it is, this supplement is not in line with my goals but I find it to be pretty reasonable in the market of protein drinks. I consider this to be one of the better ones that I have tried and I would rank it ahead of NVE's Protein Water.
