There are very few pro bodybuilders in the history of bodybuilding to show up as consistently in shape as Dexter Jackson. He is no doubt one of the best. In the past few years, I can't honestly remember a time where I conditioning wasn't spot on. He is always Mr. Shredded. Honourable mention for razor sharp conditioning goes to Jay Cutler and Darrem Charles (among the pros still competing) and Rich Gaspari and Shawn Ray from past competitions (among others - but a select and elite group). If there was one thing you could count on these guys for - it was showing up in shape.
But what makes Dexter stand out isn't JUST his ability to get ripped, but the genetics this guy has to get that ripped to begin with. From head to toe, he is peeled. While Jay Cutler has some problem areas (notably his glutes and lower back, Dexter basically has none. Dexter's glutes are shredded like no other bodybuilder has (other than Ronnie Coleman), his shoulders have striation on top of striation, and his abs are as deeply cut as Jay Cutler's. His thighs don't appear to be as shredded as Jay's, but quite amazingly, he can go toe to toe with basically any bodybuilder (past or present) and pretty much win in terms of conditioning - that is quite a feat.
Check out this from AN INTERVIEW with Dexter Jackson from 2003, when asked how he only diets for 10 weeks yet still shows up in the best of the best shape possible:
"It's just me. It is my metabolism. It is my genetics. You see, I do not get out of shape. I am different from any other bodybuilder you know. I don't do no cardio, no abs, nothing like that. I train three days a week, an hour and fifteen minutes per day."
If you were to find a pro bodybuilder who trains like that and diets like that, I doubt he would be anywhere near the caliber of Dexter. The truly amazing thing is not just his training and diet (which seems short), but the world class physique and conditioning he's built due to it. As I said, other pros may train with that type of workout regiment, but how many will look like Dexter? Few, if any at all. In fact, I for one, don't know of another bodybuilder on planet earth who can make the same claim - perhaps Dorian Yates, but he has long retired from competition.
Supposedly, Dexter did cardio for the 2004 Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic, where his conditioning was brought to a new high standard (even higher than his previous standards). It is really quite amazing what genetics can do.
Unfortunately, in the land of the giants, it will be difficult for Dexter Jackson to win the Mr. Olympia Contest, but without question, he is the new "Mr. Shredded" of our age - even moreso than the rest of the top tier when it comes to being cut, and that says a LOT when you have competition from guys like Jay Cutler and Darrem Charles.
I hope Dexter does well in the future and gets what he wants out of bodybuilding - he has the right attitude and he deserves it!
