REVIEW OF CLIF SHOT

The Natural Energy Gel!
Clif Shot® is a delicious, fast-acting, easy-to-digest energy gel that contains 24 grams of carbohydrates.
It didn't take Clif Shot long to stray from the truth (more on this in the category below entitled "taste").
The Litter Leash
Check out the innovative Litter Leash -a time-saving, lightweight answer to the problem of torn-off tops. While other gel packets create a small piece of litter which takes valuable time to dispose of (and often ends up on the road or trails) the new Litter Leash will keep the top attached to the package while not interfering with consumption.
I like that Clif is going green.
Energy for endurance athletes
Within five to ten minutes, SHOT's carbohydrates (simple & complex) and electrolytes are assimilated into your body, working to sustain your overall endurance and coordination.
More so, the Clif Shot's simple carbohydrates are providing that quick initial boost in energy.
Critical to peak performance, electrolytes such as sodium, potassium and magnesium are essential in metabolizing carbohydrates and for the proper functioning of muscles.
- Sodium - Studies indicate that rehydration occurs at a faster rate when electrolytes such as sodium are consumed during exercise.
- Potassium - This mineral is the major electrolyte found in all of your body's cells. It plays an important role in the transmission of signals to nerve impulses, muscle cell contraction and overall maintenance of your cardiovascular system.
- Magnesium - Not only is it essential for the efficient metabolism of carbohydrates, research has shown that athletes have a higher-than-average rate of magnesium deficiency. Muscle cramps and tremors may signal a magnesium deficiency.
Although not exactly the same, this is similar to the makeup of a product like Gatorade.
Mocha CLIF SHOT contains 40 mg of caffeine. Over 85% of all studies focusing on the use of caffeine among athletes demonstrate that caffeine offers significant advantages.
In controlled amounts, caffeine stimulates the central nervous system, increases the release of adrenaline, and aids in the use of body fat as fuel. The 40 mg of caffeine in each 100 calorie packet of Strawberry and Mocha CLIF SHOT is equal to about 1/2 cup of coffee.
How much caffeine is in the other flavours!?!?!?
"Whether I'm training hard or racing hard, CLIF SHOT® is my fuel of choice. "Not only is it easy to ingest on the fly, it's made with only natural ingredients and fortified with electrolytes, so I know I'm not putting junk into my body. SHOT is the ultimate fast food-and it tastes good, too!" - Ryan Bolton, 2000 Olympian, USA Men's Triathlon Team
I have to disagree with Mr. Bolton, the Olympian/Singer. Seriously though, I think we may have been given different products or perhaps the flavour he tried actually tastes good.
I feel that Clif Shot's claim was not entirely true and was somewhat limited. For these reasons, I award Clif Shot a 6/10 for the claim.
I sampled the razz flavour of Clif Shot. I'm guessing that razz means raspberry but I can't be sure, because what I tasted did not resemble a raspberry flavour. Razz tasted like its main ingredient; organic brown rice syrup. Clif Shot's razz flavour was an extremely difficult supplement to consume, for me. I found the taste dreadfully undesirable. Therefore, for taste, I award Clif Shot razz flavour a 2/10.
The texture of Clif Shot was that of a syrup-like consistency. Picture yourself drinking syrup. For me, this is not a pleasing picture. For this reason, I award Clif Shot a 3/10 for texture.
Clif Shot claims to contain 25 grams of a mixture of simple and complex carbohydrates. Also, Clif Shot contains 40 mg of caffeine. This appears to be a low amount of carbohydrates, in comparison to a product like Gatorade. Furthermore, in comparison to other pre-workout boosters on the market, Clif Shot doesn't contain much caffeine (most contain 150mg - 200 mg, Clif Shot contains 40 mg). As a result, Clif Shot had little to no noticeable effect on my workout performance. Therefore, in regards to effectiveness, I award Clif Shot a 4/10.
On a positive note, Clif Shot is competitively priced. Unfortunately, I felt that Clif Shot's claim was weak. The taste of Cliff Shot razz flavour was horrible. The texture of Cliff Shot was like syrup, which I found undesirable. Furthermore, the effectiveness of Cliff Shot appeared to be almost, if not entirely, nonexistent. Therefore, for an overall review, I award Clif Shot razz flavour a 4/10.
