Barbell Flat Bench Press - Description:

Purpose:

[1] To develop the chest.

Instructions:

[1] Lie on a flat bench with your feet on the floor. Keep your back on the bench and hold the barbell slightly more than shoulder width apart.
[2] Raise the barbell above your body. This is your starting position.
[3] Lower the barbell until it touches your chest then raise the barbell until your elbows are locked and repeat the movement.

Tips:

[1] Exhale as you raise the barbell upward and inhale as you lower it to your chest.
[2] Do not arch your back during this movement and keep your feet firmly planted on the floor.
[3] Do not bounce the weight off your chest. Raise the weight under control without the use of momentum.
[4] Use a spotter if you are unfamiliar with this exercise or if you feel you may need assistance.
[5] If you have no spotter, start with the empty bar for this exercise and gradually add more weight as you feel comfortable.
