Balance Bar Balance Gold Bars

Introduction:

I have been sampling all of the protein and energy bars available on the market today in order to see which ones I like best and which ones I would rather avoid. The Balance Bar Balance Gold Bars were the most recent to add to my collection of bar reviews on this website. As usual, I look for a number of qualities in each review which will be discussed below in specific categories. Those qualities include taste, texture, and cost. If possible, I also like to discuss the effectiveness somewhat and summarize all of my findings in the overall review at the end.

Nutritional Content:

Each bar contains 210 calories, and 56 of those calories are from protein [14 grams of protein]. The bar contains seven grams of fat in total [60 calories] with the remaining calories from carbohydrates. This is a pretty good breakdown in my opinion. I think the ratio of [fat:protein:carbohydrates] = [44:27:29] is a pretty good one overall since 40/30/30 is pretty balanced. Normally I would prefer a bar to contain around 20 grams of protein, but such bars are often 300 calories in total thus preserving the same overall macronutrient ratio. All in all, this is a lighter bar - more of a snack sized bar - and pretty sound in terms of nutritional content.

Taste:

The Balance Bar Gold Bar flavour which I tried was Rocky Road [natural flavour with other natural flavour]. It currently appears to be unavailable although Caramel Nut Blast and Chocolate Peanut Butter are both available. Overall, I found that it tasted much like I would expect from a protein bar - that being, both the taste and the aftertaste of the high protein content were obvious to me [although I am very familiar with that particular taste due to sampling so many different types of protein bars]. The taste was not too sweet yet not too bland either - roughly what I would expect from a protein bar. These days, I can roughly estimate the nutritional content of each bar based on the taste, and if I were to evaluate nutritional content based on taste, I would assume that the Balance Bar Gold Bars are pretty sound in this area. Overall, the taste was good, yet not too sweet, so still in line with what you would expect from a health bar.

Texture:

Overall, I found the texture to be good. It was a little hard and chewy, but the bar held together well and did not crumble, nor was the bar sticky or as easily melted as some other bars are. Due to the hardness of the bar, I found that it stuck a little to my teeth, but that is no big deal unless you plan to brush your teeth immediately after eating it. Overall, the texture was just fine.

Overall Review: I review each supplement on the basis of the factors cited above, as well as the price and other thoughts which come to my mind as I draw a conclusion. I felt that the Balance Bar Balance Gold Bars met the nutritional standard that I expect from a protein bar and also tasted pretty good. I have tasted better bars, but also worse ones, and often the better tasting bars do come at a price - that being nutritional value. The Rocky Road flavour which I tried was quite agreeable so I cannot really lodge any sort of serious complaint about it. The cost for these bars are $16.95 for a box of 15 which works out to $1.13 per bar which I find to be quite reasonable. Overall, I think the Balance Bar Balance Gold Bars live up to their name - they are indeed "balanced" across a number of different attributes and I think you will be pleased with them if you try them for yourselves. Overall, I award the balance bars an A and will gladly try them again.
